Fans of the New Orleans Saints may need to sit down for this news.

Michael Thomas is expected to be out for several weeks with a high-ankle injury, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. Thomas suffered the injury late in Sunday’s contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he got rolled up by teammate Alvin Kamara near the goal line. The injury was initially reported to be something that Thomas could play through, but further medical checks showed the injury was worse than at first thought.

The 27-year-old was entering 2020 after a record-setting campaign a year ago where he recorded the most receptions (149) in a single season in NFL history and led the league with 1,725 yards receiving and added nine touchdowns to his Offensive Player of the Year resume. How much this injury diminishes his impact within the Saints offense, is yet to be determined.
