After all of the fireworks from Friday night in Columbia, Missouri it was expected that Saturday afternoon’s matchup would have been a little less eventful. That theory proved to be correct with Mizzou holding off LSU’s offensive firepower on the way to a 4-1 win.
How It Happened:
Mizzou got on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI double from Paul Gomez to give them the early 1-0 lead. After a bases-loaded walk in the fifth gave Mizzou a 2-0 lead LSU responded when Brock Mathis grounded out in the seventh to score Hal Hughes.
Mizzou finished things off though in the bottom frame with a sac fly from Clayton Peterson scoring Alex Peterson and an RBI single from Peter Zimmermann wound up being the final blow to even up the series
Big Number: 11
The LSU Tigers couldn’t connect on Saturday, striking out a whopping 11 times. This was definitely less than ideal for an offense that definitely likes to be high-powered.
Player of the Game: TJ Sikkema
Sikkema was straight up dealing on Saturday, allowing one run off of three hits and struck out 10 on the afternoon. If there was one pitcher that could shut down LSU’s offense this weekend, it was him
