The New Orleans Breakers selected their quarterback in the first round of Tuesday night’s USFL Draft and had one the city’s biggest sports icons make the announcement.
The New Orleans Breakers had the eighth overall pick, and final pick of the first round, of Tuesday’s USFL Draft. With that pick, the Breakers selected former Northern Iowa quarterback Nate Sloter but it wasn’t the head coach or team president that made the announcement. In a video posted by the USFL’s Twitter account, New Orleans Saints legendary quarterback Drew Brees introduced the Breakers’ selection of Soler.
The 6-foot-4, 211-pound quarterback, who started his college career at Southern Miss, went undrafted out of Northern Colorado in 2017. Sloter would sign with the Denver Broncos and even played in the preseason.
After being cut by the Broncos, Sloter would spend time between practice squads and active rosters for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders.
The Breakers and head coach Larry Fedora continue to build their roster with Tuesday’s draft, done in a snake style manner, as each round required each team to draft a particular position.
