New Orleans Pelicans Hang On to Take Down Hornets

Posted by clintdomingue on March 14, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

After a rough last two showings, the New Orleans Pelicans (39-28) were able to hang on to snap their two-game skid with a 119-115 victory over the Charlotte Hornets (29-39).

The Pelicans came out of the gates strong, getting out to an eight point point lead with 5:13 left in the firs thanks to Jrue Holiday, who put up seven of his 25 points in the first 12 minutes of the ballgame. They were able to make it an 11-point lead but the Hornets fought back in the final minute, getting the deficit down to eight points. .

The Pelicans were able to keep the Hornets at bay in the second quarter with Anthony Davis and Nikola Mirotic putting up 11 points. However, Kemba Walker kept them in the ballgame with a finger roll to make it 72-65 at the break.

Things started to shift towards Charlotte in the third quarter with New Orleans only putting up 20 points. That was enough to tie the ballgame up as the third quarter finished with a Frank Kaminsky layup as time expired.

The Hornets looked like they were going to come away with the win early in the fourth quarter after a deep three from Kaminsky made it 104-98 in favor of Charlotte. However, the Pelicans were able to come away with the win thanks to Holiday putting the team on his back in the final 2:39 of regulation with a pair of three-pointers.

The Pelicans will return to action on Thursday when they take on the San Antonio Spurs (38-30) with tipoff set for 7:30 pm.
