Nick Lee Overcomes Rough 1st, Kennon Fontenot Lifts Cajuns to Win

Posted by clintdomingue on April 22, 2017 in Latest News

Cajuns Baseball

Nick Lee has been dealing with a lot the last few weeks. The biggest issue for the sophomore pitcher is that he has had some inflammation in his arm and that has limited him in terms of innings.

Saturday afternoon during the second game of a doubleheader saw his first outing go longer than four innings since March 11th against Saint Peter’s. After a rough start for Lee, he was able to get back into his groove to help the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (25-14-1, 12-4-1 Sun Belt) fight back to sweep the twinbill against Little Rock (14-25, 6-11 Sun Belt).

The Trojans quickly got on the board in the bottom of the first when Nik Gifford grounding out to Brad Antchak to send Hunter Owens home.

Later in the inning, Cale Ridling increased their lead with an RBI single. Zach Baker put up two more runs in the first with a double down the left field line to give the Trojans a comfortable 4-0 lead.

The Cajuns were able to respond right away with Steven Sensley scoring after Alex Pinero was tagged out at first. Joe Robbins cut the Trojans lead in half in the third with an RBI single through the right side.

The biggest story offensively was Kennon Fontenot when he got the Cajuns within one when he led off the fourth with a solo shot to left center field.

After Brad Antchak tied things up with an RBI double down the left field line, Fontenot found paydirt again with a three-run blast to left field in the fifth to give the Cajuns the series win.

Lee improved to 5-3 on the season allowing only those four runs in the first. The sophomore allowed six hits, walked three, and struck out seven in six innings of work.

Wyatt Marks got his fifth save of the season with three shutout innings, allowing only one hit, walking one, and struck out four.

The Cajuns will look to sweep their second straight series with first pitch set for 1 pm.
