UPDATED: Omaha Beach has been scratched due to an entrapped epiglottis.
The Run for the Roses returns this weekend.
The 145th Kentucky Derby will be held this Saturday at Churchill Downs with a field of 20 horses for the first leg of the Triple Crown. The horses will go to post at 5:46 p.m.
The live play by-play, as well as a pre-game show, of Saturday’s marquee race can be heard live on 103.7 The Game via Westwood One. Race coverage begins at 4 p.m.
So who will take home top prize and don the Garland of Roses once the dust is settled in “the most exciting two minutes in sports?”
The early betting favorite is Omaha Beach (4-1) who has already won both the Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby.
Famed trainer Bob Baffert, who’s had horses win the Derby five times, has three horses in contention at Churchill Downs. Those three are: Game Winner (5-1), Improbable (6-1) and Santa Anita Derby winner Roadster (6-1).
The 145th Kentucky Derby also features the first Japanese-bred horse to run the race Master Fencer (50-1).
More than an estimated 150,000 people are expected to gather at Churchill Downs on Saturday to watch the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby.
