A pair of McNeese baseball stars have left Justin Hill’s program.

McNeese junior catcher Andruw Gonzales and redshirt junior pitcher Bryson Hudgens both entered the NCAA Transfer Portal and have already transferred to Power 5 programs.

Gonzales announced on Instagram that he was headed to play for the University of Miami, who earned a national seed and hosted a NCAA Regional.

After hitting in .354 in 28 games with seven doubles and 24 RBI in 2022, Gonzales saw his production dip during the 2023 season.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound catcher batted just .212 in 45 games with eight double, three home runs and 18 RBI. Gonzales did have a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Hudgens meanwhile is going to continue his career at Oklahoma State University, who also earned a national seed and hosted a NCAA Regional.

Like Gonzales, Hudgens made the announcement on his Instagram.

Hudgens had a strong start to his McNeese career when he made 13 appearances (8 starts) and posted a 3.19 ERA during the 2021 season.

Hudgens would make only one start and threw 3.1 innings in 2022 before missing the season due to an arm injury which required Tommy John surgery.

Hudgens finally returned to the Cowboys late this season and appeared in five games, went 1-0 with 11 strikeouts, three walks and an ERA of 2.81.
