As the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (4-3) headed to the bottom of the 9th, it seemed like they would put Dylan Moore on the bump to close this game out. However, the inning wound up looking very similar to what happened last Monday against Southeastern before the game was postponed.
The first batter he faced was walked and before the inning was over, Northwestern State (3-4) tied things up at five runs apiece.
The Cajuns were able to get going again in the top of the 12th with Zach Lafleur scoring off of a wild pitch to take a 6-5 lead. They weren’t done though as Alex Pinero would send one flying over the left field wall to make it a three run lead.
Caleb Armstrong’s inning didn’t start well with two straight walks before senior Chris Charpentier came on in relief. The first batter he faced, the Cajuns were able to turn two. The Demons did score though after a throwing error by the Cajuns to cut the lead to two. With Kwanstan Adkins up to bat, the hopes of a rally were dashed as he struck out swinging.
Armstrong was credited with his first victory with two innings of work where he allowed one run off of one hit, walked two, and struck out three. Charpentier was credited with the save, his first of the season.
The Cajuns will make their long-awaited return to the Tigue on Friday when they host Southern Miss (6-1) in the first of a three-game series with first pitch set for 6 pm.
