While Jay Wright & Bryce Washington continue to get most of the headlines and deservedly so for the early season success for the Ragin’ Cajuns, you should start hearing more about PJ Hardy.
Hardy, a 6’1, 170lbs freshman out of Lake Charles, is shooting a ridiculous 56.1% from three point land. That would be leading the entire country in shooting %, but he falls eight made shots short to qualify. He has a streak of eight straight games with at least two made three-pointers and his four against ULM last Saturday were basically the difference in the game. He continues to soften up zone defenses that are concentrating on doubling Washington down low.
Outside of struggles back at home vs McNeese St (0-1, fouled out in 13 minutes) and 2-8 vs New Orleans, Hardy has easily surpassed expectations so far this season. Especially considering coming into the season he was supposed to back up Wright at the point position. Instead, he’s coming off the bench nailing long distance jumpers.
The Cajuns go for win #13 on Saturday vs Georgia Southern with early season bragging rights and first place in the Sun Belt on the line. Should the Cajuns prevail, it’s better than 50/50 that Hardy played a big role.
