PREP PROFILE Q&A: Beau Chene RB Devonte Charlot

Devonte Charlot earned St. Landry Parish Game of the Week’s Player of the Game

The Beau Chene Gators came off of a week one loss looking to get back on track. While Coach Lewis would have loved to have a balanced offense, sometimes you have to rely on your best player.

That player happens to be Devonte Charlot, and he stepped up in a big way on Saturday, carrying the ball 36 times for 101 yards to lead the way. The Gators picked up a hard-fought 9-6 win on the road at Port Barre to get their record back to even .500 at 1-1.

Up next is a tough test at home against the Northwest Raiders. This week’s prep profile is about the St. Landry Game of the Week Player of the Game: Devonte Charlot.

Question: Alright, Devonte Charlot, player of the game last week in the St. Landry Parish game of the week had over 100 rushing yards. Just talk about kind of what your mentality was going into that game and how you were able to do it.

Answer: Going into the game, I knew it was coming off of a loss in week one. And I just felt like I had to go out there and show my teammates what I can actually do, help them out and just try to get the win. And that’s what I did.

Q: And so coming off the last week one as you mentioned, how much did it mean to you all to kind of get back on the winning side of things?

A: Oh, the next day Coach got us back to the drawing board and we were drawing up stuff, changing everything and making plays.

Q: So coming into this season, you know, you knew you were going to kind of be a focal point of the offense. What were your goals? What were you focusing on coming in?

A: The biggest focus was just leading by example and showing the younger kids and the other new players what to do and how things are run by the coaches and players.

Q: Who is a running back that you like to watch play from the NFL?

A: My favorite running back in the NFL right now is Deuce Vaughn. He is just so small and he just goes.

Q: So you see some of you know his skills in your own game as well?

A: Yes Sir.

Q: And then coming up this week, you have another big game against Northwest, so what are you focused on?

A: Breaking down the film, just watching the defense, and how they react to certain plays, and what they see on the field.

This week’s matchup between Northwest and Beau Chene is the St. Landry Parish Game of the Week and can be heard at 7:00 on Friday night, with pregame at 6:45 on Newstalk 98.5 The Talk of Acadiana.
