Ju’Juan Johnson has proven time and time again just how special of a player he is.
The LSU commit currently holds the LHSAA record for touchdowns in a game with nine touchdowns in a playoff game against Teurlings last season. That playoff run for the Knights was special, as Johnson recorded 22 touchdowns in three games en route to finishing as the runner-up in Division II to St Thomas More.
The senior quarterback, who will play defensive back in Baton Rouge, put on another clinic this past Friday in the season-opening win over Acadiana where he had 505 yards of offense and eight touchdowns.
PREP PROFILE: LCA QB Ju’Juan Johnson on the message LCA sent to their opponents with their 61-38 win
Question: Ju’Juan, eight touchdowns tonight: four on the ground and four in the air. Talk about what you were seeing from an offensive standpoint where you could attack Acadiana that way?
Answer: We saw that we could throw the ball mostly knowing that we could shift our offense to one side and that their whole defense would shift over there. So we just knew the game plan. Obviously, Coach Hunter (Landry) is a great coach and a great offensive coordinator. So just knowing that I’m I have confidence in him and calling the plays, it was smooth.
Q: Tell me about the relationship that you already had with Coach Landry, like you mentioned, he became the head coach this year, and how has that helped this team in the offseason?
A: Last year, He was my offensive coordinator so our connection has always been there. I’ve known him for a long time with him being in the program so it was an easy transformation to just becoming the head coach.
Q: Who was the difference maker for you guys tonight in this game?
A: I will say honestly the whole offensive line. They did a great job blocking and fighting off a five-star prospect on the defensive line (Texas A&M commit Dominick McKinley) really good linebacker in #3 (Shamarius Harris) who’s a really great player.
Q: A lot of people talked about this year being a revenge tour for you guys after the state championship game last year. What kind of message do you think your performance and your teams’ performance sent tonight?
A: I think we sent a great message honestly for the teams that we play next. We’re going to take a look at you and play you whether you’re the highest seed or one of the lowest. You will always get our best game and we’re going to do our thing.
