Another player in the Southwest Louisiana area was able to step up when his team needed him last Friday night.
Notre Dame quarterback Parker Faust took the bull by the horns as he led this Pioneers team to a 41-12 win over the Comeaux Spartans. Faust made his first start in his high school career with Jackson Link being unavailable due to injury.
In the win, the junior completed 20 out of 28 pass attempts for 188 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also carried the rock four times for 11 yards and a score on the ground as Notre Dame won their second game of the season.
Question: What was the week of preparation for you like knowing you were going to make your first start at quarterback?
Answer: It was exciting, knowing it was going to be my first week as a starter. Building chemistry with the offense and going over the playbook with the coaches, it was an exciting week and I was ready to go.
Q: How do you do to build chemistry with the guys on the line as they help keep you upright and have time to make plays?
A: It’s going great right now. We’re building and getting comfortable with each other on the offense. Those guys up front are doing great protecting me and blocking for the run.
Q: What has it been like being coached by Hall of Famer Lewis Cook?
A: It’s been awesome and I love being able to play for Coach Cook. He’s such a great coach and has had the opportunity to coach so many guys and has won so many games. I’m honored to be coached by him.
Q: Where is your mindset knowing you’ll have to step up again for the next couple of games?
A: Yeah, just have to do what it takes to help the team win and do what I need to do as my job as the quarterback to be a leader. I can’t do too much, I just need to help the team in any way I can.
Q: What will it take for you and this Pioneers squad to go on the road and beat the Teurlings Catholic Rebels?
A: We’re going to have to run the football and open up the playbook for our offense. We’ll also need to keep our defense off the field so that we can hold them to fewer points and we need to put a few points up on the board.
The Notre Dame Pioneers will travel to play a non-district opponent in the Teurlings Catholic Rebels on Friday, September 22nd. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
