One streak may have ended on Saturday afternoon, but the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns were able to salvage a more important streak in their Sun Belt Conference series win streak, which now stands at 62 after an 8-0 win on Sunday afternoon over the Texas State Bobcats.
How It Happened
After Summer Ellyson sat down the Bobcats in order in the first, the Cajuns offense wasted little time getting on the board in the bottom frame after a leadoff walk of Ciara Bryan with Kaitlyn Alderink getting her home with a bloop single in shallow center field.
Louisiana tried to muster up some offense in the third after a Ciara Bryan single with two outs, but Alderink lined out to second to keep it a 1-0 ballgame. Texas State threatened in the fourth after a leadoff single by Hannah Earls, but Ellyson was able to keep her at second base with three quick outs.
Bryan gave the Cajuns some insurance in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run bomb to right field, making it 3-0. Later in the inning, Julie Rawls pushed them even further out in front with a two-run single through the right side, making it 5-0.
Karly Heath followed that up a few batters later with a two-run single through the left side and Jenna Kean sealed the deal with a fielder’s choice to the pitcher.
Big Number: 1
The Cajuns defense, in conjunction with Summer Ellyson was on point on Sunday, allowing only one hit in the contest. There was one moment where it looked like there was a no-doubter early, but Bryan was able to rob a home run from going over the wall.
Player of the Game: Summer Ellyson
The senior has really started to pick up steam as the season progresses, pitching another stellar game to improve to 5-2 on the season. Ellyson threw six stellar innings to secure the series and struck out seven.
