After 347 days, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns were finally able to start the 2021 season after last weekend’s festivities were canceled due to the cold weather hitting the region.
They picked up right where they left off with a pair of wins on Saturday over Jacksonville State and UAB.
The 8th-ranked Cajuns set the tone for the 2021 season with an 8-2 win over Jacksonville State. Alissa Dalton was the big star on offense, going three-of-four with three RBIs. It wasn’t just the senior shortstop powering the offense as Ciara Bryant helped extend Louisiana’s lead in the sixth with an RBI single.
Kandra Lamb made her return to the circle for the first time since the 2019 season and made an immediate impact, throwing for 4.2 innings of work and started by retiring the first nine in order.
Game two of the UAB Green and Gold Classic was something to behold with Summer Ellyson throwing a complete game shutout over the Blazers in a 1-0 win for Louisiana. The senior only allowed three hits and struck out seven as she picked up right where she left off in 2020, extending her scoreless inning streak to 18 1/3.
Bryant was the lone score for the vermilion and white with a two-out RBI single sealing the deal.
The Cajuns will look to finish out the weekend strong with Southeastern Louisiana with first pitch at 10 a.m. followed by a 3 p.m. rematch against UAB.
