The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns knew what was on the line on Saturday afternoon. An outright Sun Belt regular-season title and a thirteenth straight win headed into the conference tournament in Pensacola. It didn’t take long for the contest against Little Rock to turn into largely one-way traffic with a 60-32 win for the Cajuns highlighted by three big performances from seniors.
How It Happened
After trailing very early in the ballgame, senior Jomyra Mathis came alive for her last game inside the Cajundome with back-to-back threes giving the Cajuns an 11-4 lead with 5:54 left in the first quarter.
After the first media timeout, Louisiana started to really pull away, going on a 12-2 run that was capped off by a jumper from Makayia Hallmon as time expired in the first quarter gave the vermilion and white a 15-point lead.
It was more of the same in the second quarter with a pair of jumpers by Ty Doucet setting the tone early on. Kimberly Burton ended the first half with a short jumper as time expired, giving the Cajuns a 35-13 lead.
The second half saw the Cajuns start to pull away a little bit more with Doucet leading off the scoring with a solid jumper in the paint. Little Rock did start to chip away at the lead though with a 7-3 run to make it a 13-point deficit heading into the final ten minutes.
The fourth quarter was all Louisiana with a 10-2 run that carried them to the win that was highlighted by a Kim Burton layup off of a turnover.
