RAGIN CAJUNS GAMER: Hokies Take Rubber Game Behind Stellar Performance by Seymour

Posted by clintdomingue on February 23, 2020 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns
For the second straight Sunday, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns were shut out in

Sunday afternoon at the Tigue did not go the way it was planned with the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns getting shutout for the second straight Sunday in the rubber match against the Virginia Tech Hokies, falling 3-0.

How It Happened:

After a scoreless first inning, Virginia Tech got on the board in the top of the second with a sac fly by Carson Jones. Reagan Teegarden followed that up with a well-hit double to put the Hokies up 2-0.

Virginia Tech got another run across in the top of the third after Nick Biddison steals two bases off of a pickoff attempt and scored off of a groundout by Carson Taylor. The Cajuns had a runner in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning with a two-out single by Connor Dupuy, but he was left at second base after a Jonathan Windham strikeout.

The Cajuns had another opportunity to avoid the shutout in the bottom of the seventh with runners at the corners after Gavin Bourgeois beat out the throw at first, but Seth Hoffpauir grounded out on the first pitch he saw to end the Cajuns threat.

That was the closest that the Cajuns got to putting runs on the board

Big Number: 12

The Cajuns bats continued to struggle on Sunday, striking out 12 times. While not as bad as some of their recent outings, it doesn’t bode well for the team two weeks into the season,

Player of the Game: Ian Seymour

Seymour put together a great performance on Sunday afternoon on the mound, going six innings, allowing only two hits and striking out 11. The junior out of Massachusetts matched a career-high in strikeouts that he set against Miami on April 26th of last year

Next Up: Wednesday vs Northwestern; First Pitch at 6 pm
