Posted by clintdomingue on May 23, 2021 in Blogs, Latest News, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, RP3's Blogs
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns forced a game seven in the Baton Rouge Regional after a 2-0 win over LSU.

BATON ROUGE — With a 2-0 victory over LSU, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns forced a deciding game in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. The winner of the second game between the Tigers and Cajuns later on Sunday will be crowned the regional champion.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

LSU threatened in the second as Georgia Clark got on with a one-out single to right field. Raeleen Gutierrez then drew a walk.

Kandra Lamb got Shelbi Sunseri to strike out and then Morgan Cummins to pop up.

Louisiana put two on the base paths in the second as well.

Karly Heath hit a two-out single and Kendall Talley was hit by a pitch.

Ali Kilponen was able to get pinch hitter Bailey Curry to strike out to end the threat.

The Ragin’ Cajuns got on the board in the third.

Sophie Piskos led off with a double to left field and then advanced to third on an infield single by Ciara Bryan.

Piskos would be thrown out moments later at home plate as Kaitlyn Alderink reached on a fielder’s choice.

Jade Gortarez hit a double to left center field that drove in two runs.

LSU threatened in the top of the sixth.

Ciara Briggs and Taylor Pleasants both got on with one-out singles. Doyle would reach on a fielder’s choice but Briggs would be out on the base paths. Lamb then got Clark fly out to end the inning.

BIG NUMBER: 3

LSU’s lineup was held to a mere three hits in the shutout loss, as all three hits were singles.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Kandra Lamb

The Ragin’ Cajuns pitcher was excellent on Sunday.  Lamb didn’t surrender a run while giving up only three hits and striking out five in the complete-game shutout.

UP NEXT: Louisiana will take on LSU again for the regional championship. First pitch at Tiger Park is set for shortly after 4 p.m.
