The Ragin’ Cajuns bring their record to 3-1 in the regular season as number two ranked Alabama outscored Louisiana 9-1 on Thursday night after their nine days off. The Cajuns will have a quick turnaround as they get back to action tomorrow in the Mardi Gras Mambo held at the Youngsville Sports Complex by Southeastern Friday to Sunday when they have a rematch against Alabama at 11am.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Alabama came out with a bang as Kaylee Tow scored her first home run of the season bringing in Ashley Prange for an early 2-0 lead for the Crimson Tide. Louisiana tried to respond, but were shutout by pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl to end the first inning.
Louisiana kept Alabama from scoring in the second with a major catch at the fence by Maddie Hayden to end the second with a scoreless inning by both teams.
A walk by Alabama’s Abby Doerr would bring in Ashley Prange. With bases loaded, Kilfoyl doubled to right center with a double RBI with Abby Doerr and Ally Shipman. Alabama ended their run in the third with a total of four walks, two hit-by-pitches, and two hits for a seven-run inning. Cajuns end another inning scoreless with Alabama leading 9-0.
A double play ended a scoreless fourth inning for the Crimson Tide with a throw from third base to take out second base and to get out batter Bailey Dowling in a groundout at first. Louisiana puts one on the board as Laney Credeur runs home on a single RBI by Hayden ending the fourth inning 9-1.
A run early by Jenna Kean from Louisiana ends the game in mercy rule, Alabama takes the win 9-1.
