The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns woes in Jonesboro continued on Saturday afternoon, despite a late rally fell to Arkansas State 83-77.
How It Happened:
The Cajuns started out fast against the Red Wolves, taking a 12-7 lead after a three-pointer by Cedric Russell with 16:01 left in the first half. However, Arkansas State fought back after the first media timeout and went on a 17-3 run highlighted by a pair of threes from Avery Felts.
The Red Wolves got hot towards the end of the first half with a 13-2 run that was capped off by a second-chance jumper by Malcolm Farrington made it a 17-point lead as both teams headed into the locker room.
Arkansas State got up by eighteen points early in the second half after a pair of free throws by Norchad Omier, but the Cajuns fought back with a quick run that was quickly snuffed out by a pair of three-pointers by Markise Davis and Marquis Eaton.
Louisiana started to turn things around at the eight-minute mark of the second half, going on 13-4 run to make it a five-point ballgame with 2:07 left in regulation. Arkansas State sealed the victory with a second-chance layup by Norchad Omier.
Big Number: 58
The Red Wolves were on fire from three-point range, shooting 58% from beyond the arc and was without a doubt a big reason for the sweep of the Cajuns.
Player of the Game: Marquis Eaton
Eaton had a fantastic night on the court, leading the way with 15 points and four rebounds. He was also very efficient from the charity stripe, going 7-for-7.
