After a convincing win on Friday night, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns dropped the second game of their four-game series 5-3 to Coastal Carolina behind a pair of home runs by the Chanticleers.
How It Happened
The Chanticleers started out strong in the top of the second, with Cooper Weiss leading off the inning with a single. Tanner Garrison got the 3rd baseman across home plate with a one-out RBI single to take an early lead.
The Cajuns responded in the bottom of the third with Ben Fitzgerald hitting a one-out ground-rule double down the right-field line. Tyler Robertson followed that up with a double down the left field line to get Fitzgerald home safely, tying the game up.
Coastal Carolina took the lead back in the top of the fifth with a two-run blast to left field by Billy Underwood. Nick Lucky followed that up in the sixth with a solo home run out in right field to give the Chanticleers a 4-1 lead.
Carson Roccaforte was able to cut the deficit down to two runs in the bottom of the sixth, scoring off of an error by Dale Thomas. After a pair of walks early in the top of the seventh, Eric Brown drilled one to right field to give Coastal a 5-2 lead.
Louisiana tried to rally in the ninth after the bases were loaded with one out after Drake Osborn was walked. Brennan Breaux was able to scratch a run across off of a sac fly. However, Connor Kimple struck out swinging to end the game and even the series at two apiece.
Big Number: 12
The Cajuns were getting solid hits all afternoon, but they couldn’t get many runs across, stranding 12. It was even more disappointing, going 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Player of the Game: Tyler Robertson
While the Cajuns didn’t come away with the win, Robertson looked great at the dish, going four for five and an RBI double to tie things up early in the contest.
