The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns had a bit of a scare in the second half on Saturday night, but the win streak continued with a 75-65 win over the McNeese State Cowboys.
How It Happened
The Cajuns came out of the gates strong, taking a 9-2 lead headed into the first media timeout, going up by as much as 17 with about 10 minutes left until halftime. However, McNeese State wasn’t going to let this game get too out of hand, fighting back at the end of the first half, cutting it to a 36-18 lead at halftime.
The Cajuns started the second half off slow offensively, which gave the Cowboys ample opportunity to chip away at the lead, going on an 18-8 to make it a 46-38 contest with 12:54 left in the game. McNeese State got within two points after a pair of free throws by KeyShawn Feazell. However, the Cajuns started to pull away after the scare with eight minutes left in regulation thanks to a big performance from freshman Isaiah Richards to secure the team’s sixth straight win and finish up the month of December undefeated.
Big Number: 17
Ball control for Louisiana was an issue with 17 turnovers in the win. As conference play fast approaches, that’s something that the Cajuns will need to improve on over the next couple of weeks.
Player of the Game: Cedric Russell
The Alexandria native has continued to be one of the MVPs of non-conference play, putting up 23 points and four assists on the evening. It was his third straight twenty-point performance and looked good all over the court.
