The University of Louisiana women’s basketball team extended their winning streak to four games after a 74-63 road win over Lamar.

How It Happened:

The game started off as a back-and-forth affair.  Both teams could not establish control of the game in the first quarter. UL and Lamar exchanged scores to start the game, with the Ragin’ Cajuns leading by as many as four points with 1:04 left in the opening frame.

The Ragin’ Cajuns created separation in the following quarter. UL outscored Lamar 23-13 in the second to take a 39-27 lead into halftime. It was the best shooting quarter for UL in the game, converting on 8-of-10 field goals.

UL then eased their way to an 11-point win over Lamar despite being outscored 18-15 in the third quarter. The Ragin’ Cajuns closed the game out by making 10-of-11 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter after only making 5-of-9 from the line in the third.

Four players scored in double figures in the Ragin’ Cajuns victory along with Jomyra Mathis (8 points) and Skyler Goodwin (9 points) falling just shy of  adding to the double-figure scoring performances. UL is now 5-1 on the year.

Big Number: 32, 33

UL finished the game with 32 points in the paint and 33 free throw attempts. The Ragin’ Cajuns only attempted seven threes on the night. They outscored Lamar 32-22 in points in the paint and shot 15 more free throws.

Player of the Game: Ty Doucet

Hard to pick a player of the game with such a balanced scoring attack from the Ragin’ Cajuns, but it goes to forward Ty Doucet after she notched another double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. This is Doucet’s third double-double through the first six games of the season.

Next Up: Monday, Dec. 2 vs Xavier University of Louisiana; Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
