Robert MacIntyre captures Scottish Open title

It was the single tournament he’s always wanted to win.

Growing up in Scotland, Robert MacIntyre dreamed of lifting the Genesis Scottish Open trophy. After finishing just one shot short of Rory McIlroy a year ago, it made him even hungrier to achieve the dream. That dream became a reality on Sunday afternoon.

The former McNeese Cowboy started the final day two shots behind Ludwig Aberg before eventually having to chase Adam Scott down on the back nine. A dramatic eagle on 16 set the Oban native up to secure the win with a 22-foot birdie putt on 18.

This was the second win of young MacIntyre’s PGA Tour career, winning the RBC Canadian Open earlier this year. He is expected to jump 23 spots in the FedEx Cup standings with just a few tournaments remaining until the FedEx Cup playoffs.

This win was a crowd favorite in Scotland as fans chanted MacIntyre’s name, bagpipes went off in excitement, and so much more as MacIntyre became just the second Scotsman to win the tournament on his home soil.
