Two inductees will be enshrined and two special awards will be given out in the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame in 2025, the team announced on Wednesday.
Tracy Porter and Brett Maxie will go into the Saints Hall of Fame, Ed Daniels will posthumously receive the Joe Gemelli “Fleur De Lis” Award, and Steve Gleason will get the Saints Hall of Fame Courage Award.
Porter, a Port Allen native, was selected by the Saints in the 2nd Round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He became an important part of the Saints secondary in his four seasons with the team, particularly during their 2009 Super Bowl run. The moment he will be remembered for is without a doubt his game-sealing interception return for touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts, securing the franchise’s first Super Bowl Title.
Maxie played college ball for Texas Southern and was brought into the Saints in 1985 as an undrafted free agent at safety. He was a part of many memorable moments in franchise history, including the first playoff game and first winning season. He finished his Saints career with 15 interceptions, returning three of them for touchdowns.
Daniels was a sports reporter in the New Orleans area for more than four decades. His voice became easily associated with anything New Orleans related, and he was also a part of the Saints broadcast team for radio during his career. His “Friday Night Football” show was an all-time favorite, recapping the night in local high school football each Friday evening. He passed away in 2024 at age 67.
Gleason has continued to be a source for strength and courage in the city of New Orleans and beyond since his ALS diagnoses. His blocked punt tabbed “Rebirth” in the first game back in the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina remains one of the most iconic moments in the history of the franchise.
