New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis was named the team’s 2020 Man of the Year, the team announced on Thursday.
Davis will be the team’s nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. The annual award honors a player’s work in community service and performance with the team.
All 32 nominees, one from each team, were announced on Dec. 10.
Davis joined New Orleans in 2018. He has appeared in 44 games while being the team’s signal-caller on defense. Since joining the Saints, Davis has recorded 306 total tackles, 13 sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception.
The Mississippi native was drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He spent five seasons in New York before joining New Orleans.
Davis was named a first-team Associated Press All-Pro in 2019.
Davis also started the Devoted Dreamers Foundation with the mission to equip the next generation of leaders with the tools to be successful spiritually, mentally and physically, teaching everything from reading to finances to vehicle repair,” according to the team’s website.
