It was a tale of two halves for the New Orleans Saints (3-1) on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium, but the end result was just what the doctor ordered as they came away with a 33-18 win over the New York Giants (1-3).
Things didn’t start great with the Saints, going three-and-out and allowing the Giants to get on the board first with a touchdown pass to Sterling Shepard from two-yards out. The Saints started the second quarter with a 42-yarder from Wil Lutz going through the uprights to cut away at the lead. The former Georgia State Panther wasn’t done yet though as he wound putting in three more field goals in the second quarter to give the Saints a 12-7 lead headed into the half.
Things started to turn around for the Saints once the second half got started though, with a seven-play drive that was capped off by a nine-yard touchdown run to increase the Saints lead to 12 points. The Giants responded with their first sustained drive since the first quarter, but couldn’t find the endzone and had to settle for a 33-yard field goal to cut away at the lead late in the third quarter.
The Saints offense started to pull away in the fourth quarter with a three-yard touchdown run for Alvin Kamara that was originally called short of the goal line, but after reviewing the play it was reversed to a touchdown. New York was able to find the endzone with 3:48 left in the ballgame when Saquon Barkley ran it in from one-yard out, but Kamara found paydirt for the third time in the ballgame with a 49-yard touchdown run that he took well into the tunnel to seal the deal.
The Saints will now prepare for a Monday Night Football matchup when they host the Washington Redskins next week with kickoff set for 7:15 pm.
