Last week the New Orleans Saints found their next starting quarterback in former Raiders QB Derek Carr. On Monday evening the Black and Gold re-signed former starting signal-caller Jameis Winston to be their backup for the 2023-2024 season.
New Orleans offered Winston the deal late last week and he had until Wednesday to sign otherwise we would’ve been an unrestricted free agent.
It is a revised contract that is a one-year deal for $8 million with $4 million as the base salary. This deal helps the Saints free up a little more cap as we get one day closer to the official start of free agency.
Winston played in just three games in 2022 for the Black and Gold before he was sat down for the remainder of the year due to injuries and the coaching staff deciding to stick with veteran Andy Dalton under center.
The Saints lost depth on the defensive side of the football as well on Monday as edge rusher Marcus Davenport signed with the Vikings, DT Shy Tuttle is on the Panthers while DT David Onyemata and LB Kaden Ellis followed former co-Defensive Coordinator Ryan Nielsen to Atlanta to play for the Falcons.
