The New Orleans Saints have signed another defensive back to bolster that room and improve their depth.
Former Detroit Lion Will Harris has agreed to the terms of a one-year deal with the Black and Gold following the 2024 NFL Draft. Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network broke the news via X.
Harris is a five-year vet who spent every season with the Lions after being taken in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Standing at 6’1″ and weighing 206 pounds, Harris has appeared in 81 out of 83 possible games and has been a depth piece for Detroit.
The former Boston College Eagle has spent time at multiple spots in the secondary, playing as a boundary corner, in the slot/nickel spot, and has lined up at safety. Harris has shown his versatility which works well for the Saints as head coach Dennis Allen loves to move his defensive players around for different looks.
In his career, Harris has made 246 tackles (174 solo), sacked opposing quarterbacks 1.5 times, defended 14 passes, recorded three interceptions, forced two fumbles, and recovered two more. In 2023, the 28-year-old defensive back recorded 18 tackles, forced a fumble, had one interception, and defended two passes in 17 games.
Harris joins a secondary that includes Marshon Lattimore, Paulson Adebo, Tyrann Mathieu, Alontae Taylor, Jordan Howden, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Ugo Amadi, Johnathan Abram, J.T. Gray, Shemar Jean-Charles, Faion Hicks, Rico Payton, Millard Bradford, Lawrence Johnson, and Rejzohn Wright.
Before then, the Saints also signed a couple of offensive linemen including former New York Giants guard/center Shane Lemieux and Las Vegas Raiders offensive tackle Justin Herron.
These signings come after an NFL Draft where the Black and Gold selected seven players, two of which being offensive tackles. The first of two was former Oregon State Beaver Taliese Fuaga who was taken 14th overall.
New Orleans also signed 16 undrafted free agents following the draft, including former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns running back Jacob Kibodi and Tulane center Sincere Haynesworth.
