Saints stop Colts rally, win second straight

Saints Colts

In what was a tale of two halves for both teams, the Saints were able to keep the Indianapolis Colts at bay to win their second straight game by the score of 27-20.

After a slow start for both teams, the Saints got on the board after the Saints seemingly pulled a play from Les Miles playbook by faking a field goal with Luke McCown connecting with Ben Watson for 25 yards to give the Saints the ball at the one-yard line and Khiry Robinson walked it in on the next play for the score.

The Saints defense helped out on the following drive with rookie Stephone Anthony getting his first interception of the season and gave the Saints ideal field position at the Indy 23. The Saints offense capitalized on the big defensive play with Robinson getting the ball and running it into the endzone from six yards out on the first play of the second quarter to extend the Saints lead.

The Saints got the ball back in quick fashion with Griff Whalen fumbling the kickoff return and was recovered by Kyle Wilson to give the Saints the ball once again deep in Indianapolis territory. The Saints capitalized off the crucial turnover yet again with Brees connecting with Michael Hoomanawanui for the score to put the Saints up 20-0 after a missed extra point by Kai Forbath.

The Saints started the second half with another rushing touchdown, this time by Mark Ingram who came alive against the Indianapolis defense, rushing for 143-yards on 14 carries on the afternoon.

After the Saints touchdown, the Colts began to roar back with Andrew Luck connecting with T.Y. Hilton on an 87-yard pass and again with a 46-yard pass to Hilton to come within two scores.

The Saints defense shut down the Colts, but were unable to stop the Colts from coming within one score off of a short pass from Luck to Donte Moncrief. But after the Saints recovered the onside kick, the Saints were able to put the game on ice after a third down catch by Marques Colston going into the two-minute warning gave the Saints the chance to kneel three times and call it a day.

The Saints (3-4) will return home on November 1st to take on the New York Giants with kickoff set for 1 pm.
