The New Orleans Saints made a trio of selections on day two of the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They selected Tyler Shough, Vernon Broughton, and Jonas Sanker.
After taking offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr in the first round, New Orleans ultimately chose to stay put at No. 40 instead of moving up or down with their second-round pick. Despite Shadeur Sanders being available, they selected the quarterback Shough out of Louisville.
At 25 years old, Shough is one of the oldest prospects in this class. He dealth with numerous injuries throughout his collegiate career but made 2024 his best season. He spent it with the Cardinals of Louisville, after previous stops at Oregon and Texas Tech. He joins a crowded quarterback room in NOLA alongside Derek Carr, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener.
With their first pick in the third round, New Orleans went need-based. They selected Broughton, a defensive tackle from Texas. College teammates with Banks Jr, Broughton brings much-needed run defense ability to the defensive line,
New Orleans had a second third round pick, and they used that selection to get Sanker, a safety out of Virginia. The Charlottesville native was an All-ACC selection this season and looks to bolster a safety room that the Saints already addressed in free agency with the signing of Justin Reid.
