Saturdays are termed “moving days” in golf tournaments.
On this specific day at The Masters, avoiding a move in the wrong direction seemed to be the key factor at the top of the leaderboard. Scottie Scheffler was able to do that.
Conditions were not quite as difficult as they were a day ago, and that was shown in some low scores put on the board in the early phases of the day. Chris Kirk fired a four-under 68, and Adam Scott was two-under with a 70.
However, the leaders had issues. Bryson Dechambeau had trouble all day. He made several bogeys, and needed a miraculous hole-out birdie on #18 to shoot 75 for the day, moving his total back to -3.
Max Homa also could not make up any ground. He made 17 pars, but his one bogey set him back to +1 for the day. He is now -5 for the tournament, a couple of shots off the lead.
Collin Morikawa was able to surge, as he shot three-under 69 to put his name in the mix. That got him to -6 overall and challenged for the lead.
Morikawa would have had a share of the led if not for the steady play of Scheffler. While not his best day, he scrambled to a 71 and improved his overall score to -7. His eagle on #13 highlighted the day, and he finished with a one-shot lead heading into the tournament’s final day.
Tiger Woods struggled all day, ultimately shooting an 82. His overall score now sits at +11.
