The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (12-15, 3-6 Sun Belt) avoided the sweep once again on Saturday afternoon, coming away with a 6-1 win over Arkansas State (11-13, 3-6 Sun Belt) thanks to a stellar showing from Colten Schmidt.
How It Happened
The Cajuns got out in front in the top of the second when Blake Faecher scored off of a wild pitch. Kennon Fontenot followed up with an RBI single in the top of the third to make it 2-0.
Hunter Kasuls pushed Louisiana to a 4-0 lead in the fifth with a two-run double down the left field line. Zach LaFleur put the game seemingly out of reach later in the inning with an RBI single up the middle.
However, the Red Wolves got on the board in the eighth when Tobias Johnson scored Cullen Ray on a fielder’s choice to make it 5-1. Jonathan Windham finished things off in the ninth with an RBI single through the left side to give the Cajuns a 6-1 win
Colten Schmidt improved to 2-1 on the season allowing one run off of eight hits, struck out seven and walked two in a complete game effort.
Big Number: 9
The Cajuns offense looked good for much of the weekend and they avoided the sweep thanks in large part to that with six runs off of nine hits.
Player of the Game: Colten Schmidt
A complete game effort, allowing only one run is more than deserving of player of the game honors.
