The coaching staff for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns is starting to take shape as new head coach Billy Napier announced on Tuesday that Karl Scott would be the defensive coordinator.
“We are pleased to announce the addition of Karl Scott to our staff,” Napier said. “He is a tremendous teacher and has a great track record of developing players. He fully understands our recruiting footprint with ties in Louisiana as well as being a Houston native. He is one of the bright young minds in this profession and most importantly a man of principle who will work tirelessly to invest in his players.”
Scott, much Michael Desormeaux and Rob Sale, has ties to the state of Louisiana. Prior to coaching Texas Tech’s secondary the last two seasons, he was the defensive coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana in 2014 and coached the safeties in 2015.
During his time at Southeastern Louisiana, the defense ranked seventh in the FCS rankings for total defense. Also, the Lions led the nation in passing deficiency, ranked fifth in red zone defense, and eighth in scoring defense.
