It’s not often that the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (20-14-1, 9-4-1 Sun Belt) are headed into the third game of a series with a chance to sweep. They’ve only been able to sweep one series all season and that was against Saint Peter’s.
That’s the exact situation the Cajuns are in right now as they try to continue to get on a roll after a 13-2 victory against Arkansas State (19-16, 7-7 Sun Belt).
Ishmael Edwards got things going in the bottom of the first with a leadoff triple before scoring after Brad Antchak grounded out to take an early 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Kennon Fontenot hit an RBI double.
The Red Wolves quickly responded with Grant Hawkins grounding out to score Jake Bakamus. That would cut the lead in half but it wouldn’t last long as the Cajuns put up three runs in the bottom half of the second capped off by an RBI double from Joe Robbins to left center.
Steven Sensley showed off some power in the bottom of the fourth with a two run screamer to right field.
While Bakamus got another run across for the Red Wolves in the top of the fifth, it just wasn’t enough as the Cajuns put two more runs in the fifth to make it 9-2.
Sensley struck again in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run shot that ended up around the same spot to put the final nail in the coffin.
Evan Guillory improved to 2-2 on the year allowing two hits, walked one, and struck out four in four and a third innings of work.
The Cajuns will look to sweep the series Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 pm.
