The New Orleans Pelicans (35-26) are really starting to cook with grease. After being down as much as 15 points against the San Antonio Spurs (36-26), the Pelicans rose above it and were able to make it seven in a row on Wednesday night, winning 121-116.
Both teams started out strong, but the Spurs were able to keep the Pelicans at bay in the first quarter and were able to get out to a five point lead thanks to Manu Ginobli hitting a bank shot with 44 seconds left.
San Antonio started to pull away as the second quarter progressed, getting out to as much as a 13-point lead with 3:20 left until halftime. The Pelicans made it competitive though, getting the lead down to nine points as both teams headed into the locker room.
Despite head coach Gregg Popovich being ejected early on, the score stayed relatively the same in the third quarter. However, there was a clear change in momentum with the Pelicans making 36 points, ten of those coming from Anthony Davis.
As the fourth quarter progressed, it seemed like the Spurs were about to get a big win against the red-hot Pelicans. However, the Pelicans put together an incredible 13-3 to end the ballgame and get their seventh straight victory.
The Pelicans will return to action on Sunday, finishing the Texas two-step against the Dallas Mavericks (19-43) with tipoff set for 6 pm.
