The LSU Tigers have been closing in on another Women’s College World Series appearance for a few years now. Last year they made it one step closer, but still fell short. 2025 is a year that the Tigers are looking to get over the hump and return to the pinnacle of the sport.
Head Coach: Beth Torina (14th Year)
2024 Record: 44-17 (12-12 SEC)
2024 Postseason Result: Lost in Super Regional
2025 Preseason Ranking: 9th Nationally (ESPN.COM/USA Softball)/6th SEC
BACK AND BETTER?
The 2024 season ended in heartbreak for LSU, as they had a 1-0 lead in the Super Regionals against Stanford but failed to score a run in the next two. Still, it was a year where they went further than previous seasons and now they look to improve upon it. Coach Torina does lose some key players, but has replenished the talent and is thought highly of entering this year.
NEW LOOK LINEUP
Many of the changes on this LSU roster come in the offensive lineup. Star shortstop Taylor Pleasants is one of a few dynamic hitters to have moved on, so Torina’s team will be looking to some new faces for offense this season. In addition to a couple of key transfers, Danieca Coffey returning from injury could be a big factor for the Tigers this season.
RUNNING THE GAUNTLET
SEC softball is expected to be as strong as it has been in recent memory, and may even take it to another level. The addition of powerful programs in Texas and Oklahoma only make navigating conference play more challenging. In fact, the SEC boasts six of the top ten teams in the preseason poll, and 11 of the top 25 overall. If the Tigers are to get back where they are trying to get, they will have to do it against another brutal stretch of scheduling.
The LSU Tigers open their season on Friday, February 7th in the Tiger Classic when they play Charlotte at 4:00 PM at Tiger Park.
