The LSU Tigers (32-17) after two innings of play were firmly in control with a 5-1 lead. However, the Tigers lead evaporated late in the game to give South Alabama (30-18) a 7-6 victory.

The Jaguars started to fight back in the fourth when Travis Swaggerty hit a sac fly to score Colton Thomas. Thomas got another one across in the fifth with an RBI double to continue to chip away at the lead.

Jared Barnes got South Alabama within one run in the sixth with an RBI single. The rally began to take on a life of its own with a three run ninth capped off by an RBI single from Will Luft to give the Jaguars a 7-5 lead.

LSU did get a run across in the bottom of the ninth when Cole Freeman hit an RBI single with two outs. The hero of Sunday’s game in Antoine Duplantis stepped up to the plate and took the first pitch he saw into the air and it was caught by Drew LaBounty to seal the victory for South Alabama.

Nick Bush improved to 1-1 on the season allowing three runs off one hit and walked three in one inning of work.

LSU will try to get back on track on Thursday when they host Auburn (32-18, 14-10 SEC) with first pitch set for 6:30 pm.
