ABBEVILLE – When your team falls short of a state championship, it’s easy to look back and think about what you could’ve done differently.
Also, most teams would head into 2023 looking for revenge or wanting to make a statement.
For Broc Prejean and Vermilion Catholic, the message they learned from 2022 was about enjoying the success you did have.
“I think lesson #1 is to appreciate the journey,” Prejean said. “It was a heck of a run and it was nice to be with the kids during that run and see their consistency. You have to understand that years like that are very special and we enjoyed it, but it showed the younger guys what it takes to have that success and hopefully we can piggy back off of that.”
IMPACT PLAYERS
Jonathan Dartez QB, 5’9″, 170 lbs, Jr
Dartez has started ever since his freshman season, and now with two years of experience under his belt, he’ll look to put the Eagles back in the state title game.
“This offseason has been good for us,” Dartez said. “We have a lot of new people coming up and we’ve been getting better and mentally preparing for the upcoming season.”
Jackson Trahan OL/DL, 6’1″, 205 lbs, Jr
Trahan has been a staple on the offensive line but has also added playing nose tackle to his resume this offseason. He may only be a junior, but he’ll be the leader of the five guys up front.
Tyjh Williams RB, 5’10”, 170 lbs, Sr
Williams has been a featured backup in this high-powered offense, but now steps into the starting spot after Tiki Moore departed at the end of last season. He’s a name to watch to see how much his production increases with more touches.
HEAD COACH: Broc Prejean
Prejean has been the head coach of Vermilion Catholic since 2020 and has brought the Eagles to the state championship, state quarterfinals, and an 8-1 finish in 2020. Prejean has the right plan in place for a tough district and will look to get VC back into the title picture in 2023.
