The rubber match for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns was a rough one out of the gate, leading to the TCU Horned Frogs taking the series by the score of 5-1.
How It Happened:
After two quick outs orchestrated by Carter Robinson, Brayden Taylor was walked and that was followed up by a double out to left field by Zach Humphreys. That brought Conner Shepherd to the plate and the senior lifted one out to right field to give TCU an early 3-0 lead.
Phillip Sikes kept the two-out rally going for the Horned Frogs with a double out to center field and Gene Wood increased the lead to 4-0 with a well-hit RBI single.
From there, it was all about TCU’s pitching with Johnny Ray holding the Cajuns hitless into the bottom of the sixth when Drake Osborn led off the inning with a single to right field. However, CJ Willis hit into a double play to end the threat.
The score remained 4-0 until the eighth inning Tommy Sacco scored off of a fielder’s choice. Louisiana was able to avoid getting shut out in the series finale after Connor Kimple scored off of an error by Gray Rodgers, but it wasn’t enough.
Big Number: 10
The Cajuns underwhelmed on offense for the second straight afternoon, striking out ten times. The Horned Frogs kept control of the ballgame by eliminating some of the heavy hitters, including Ben Fitzgerald who struck out three times.
Player of the Game: Johnny Ray
The Quincy, Illinois native looked dominant on the mound, throwing five hitless innings and striking out five. He only allowed one hit before being pulled, but the sophomore was impressive for TCU.
