This weekend was very tough to narrow down to just 5 things but I was able to compose myself, think about it, and grab my thoughts by the,um, horns! And I wrangled my Fave 5 together!
CAUTION! THE FAVE 5 IS ALWAYS NSFW, UNFILTERED, UNPREDICTABLE, AND COMPLETELY UNCENSORED!
5. Dan Henderson
UFC 204’s main event was pretty much perfect minus the ending. While I was rooting for the fairy tale ending and Hendo to go out on top, this fight was 5 stars all the way. It showcased everything that makes Bisping and Hendo fan favorites. We saw a couple Hendo Bombs, Bisping’s world class cardio, and the amount of fighting spirit and heart on display was as inspiring as any screenplay Sly Stallone has penned. After the fight both guys cut amazing promos when interviewed in the Octagon with Hendo calling it a career with an all time line: “I wish they judged the fight on how you looked after the fight.” Amen and thank you Dan Henderson. You are a national treasure.
4. Toronto Blue Jays
Whatever the Kavorka the Rangers used to dominate the Astros this season, the Blue Jays ripped away from Texas and used it against them with a 3 game trip to sweep city. As a lifelong Pirates fans who is used to losing, I do get some sense of satisfaction seeing former Pirates Russell Martin and Jason Grilli succeed. My relationship with playoff baseball is very sad.
3. Darius Slay
“Big Play” Darius Slay, the Lions defensive back, came through and helped the Lions finish the Eagles even though Matt Stafford and the Detroit offense stopped playing once they went up a few scores. I knew the Eagles were phony good and that this was the type of game the schizophrenic Lions win. I was nervous at the end of this game though, as it looked like Wentz and Philly might ruin my Colossal run in the Colossal Clubhouse Challenge. Slay saved the day though, forcing a Ryan Matthews fumble late to get Detroit the ball back with enough time for a game winning field goal. Philly had time on the clock and room to get into field goal range to snatch the victory back but Slay forced Carson Wentz’ first interception of his career giving Philly their first loss, Detroit a much needed win, and making me look like the smartest man on Acadiana Sports Talk radio once again! Thanks Big Play!
2. Tennessee Volunteers
The Vols had their most impressive game of the season this weekend and it came during their first loss. A&M dominated this game and was literally inches from shoving the dagger into Tennessee’s heart when a goal line punch out and fumble gave the Vols hope. This time it ended poorly in OT for Tennessee but even still, after witnessing another 4th quarter flurry by college football’s high wire act, I am now a believer and even if the Vols lose to Bama this week, if they get to Atlanta, I believe that they can win the SEC. Never underestimate the fighting spirit!
1. Big Zeke
Check out the peaks on Zeke the Freak! My lock of the week was Dallas over Cincinnati and with 134 yards and 2 touchdowns, Ezekial Elliot took the Bungles to the Gloryhole for Jerry Jones. Zeke and DP are proving to be a historic pair of rookies. Whether their success is due to a great offensive line, a less that difficult schedule, or just luck; Big D continues to look good on it’s journey towards my prediction of a Super Bowl 51 matchup against the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers.
