The players have reported to camp. The practices have begun. But for the Ragin Cajuns, it’s all about the QB battle for the second straight year. But this time, it’s different as a former LSU Tiger in Anthony Jennings is having to learn a new system under Jorge Munoz. But he seems to be a fast learner.
“It’s very different (from LSU).” Jennings said, “They’re more shotgun. I think that watching their film from last year and during spring practice, I think that they’re going to have to excel in this offense.”
As camps get started, the edge could be in favor of Jordan Davis, who has a little bit of experience in the system playing in the final two games of the 2015 season, but he isn’t afraid of the competition.
“Competition is competition. This is what we do as football players.” Davis said about the QB battle, “The competition will either make you better or worse. I’m just really excited and confident in my abilities in what I can do.”
But it all comes down to what happens in camp. According to head coach Mark Hudspeth, both will split time with the first string and once someone gets more reps with those guys, the sky is the limit for that QB. At the same time though, Hudspeth discusses that it is way too early to call it.
If the Cajuns want to get back to a bowl game in 2016, they have to make the right decision and stick with it. In 2015, it seemed that there was a lot of indecision between starting Brooks Haack and Jalen Nixon and it led to the first losing season since Hudspeth arrived to Lafayette.
