The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team defeated the San Diego State Aztecs 103-48 on Saturday night inside the PMAC in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The win moves the Tigers into the second round of the tourney where they will face Florida State on Monday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LSU came right out of the gate firing on all cylinders. An immediate 11-0 run led by Flau’jae Johnson got things started. Then, the outside shooting continued along the way to a 22-6 advantage. By the end of the first quarter, the Tigers were already in control with a 27-10 lead.
Adryana Quezada had six points in the first half for San Diego State, but they just could not find much scoring against the LSU defense. Johnson, Aneesah Morrow, and Mjracle Sheppard all found double digits before the halftime break. LSU made six of 10 first half threes and led comfortably at halftime 49-20.
With a massive lead, the second half became one where Kim Mulkey was able to mix in a lot of non-starters to play significant minutes. Towards the end of the third quarter, however, she went back to her starters. They helped lengthen the lead further, going into the fourth up 73-36.
The fourth quarter was all but a formality. LSU cruised ahead and once again got their reserves some valuable minutes. They handled a 103-48 victory.
