The LSU Women’s Basketball team (18-2, 4-2 SEC) took care of business on Thursday night with a 98–54 win against Texas A&M (8-7, 1-5 SEC) in the Reed Arena. After starting conference play with back-to-back losses, the Tigers have now won four straight SEC games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game started tightly contested, with points coming at a premium for both sides. The Tigers would pick up the intensity after the first TV timeout and go on a 12-4 run, aided by three straight three-pointers from MiLaysia Fulwiley to take a 21-12 lead to close the first period.

LSU picked up right where it left off in the second quarter, opening the period with a 12–3 run to stretch their lead to 18.

The Tigers were in full control by the break, leading 41–22 at halftime.

Coming out of halftime, both teams exchanged scores in the most back-and-forth action since the first quarter, with LSU still firmly in control halfway through the third.

The offense for the Tigers continued to overpower the Aggies. The Tigers widened the gap, going on an 18-0 run before closing out the third with a 78-41 lead.

Fulwiley shined through the first three periods, matching her season high of 23 points with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

In the fourth, with the win firmly secured, LSU took their foot off the gas and slowed down their offensive onslaught. The Tigers wrapped things up with a firm 93–54 victory over Texas A&M.

With the win, LSU has now won their last 4 games and improved to 18-2 (4-2 SEC) on the year.

BIG NUMBER: 41

LSU put up 41 points off turnovers tonight and really capitalized on the Aggies’ mistakes. The Tigers’ pressure on defense created constant opportunities, keeping Texas A&M on their heels throughout the night.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: MiLaysia Fulwiley

Fulwiley was all over the court; she matched her season high of 23 points with just over two minutes left in the third. She went 3–6 from beyond the arc and had four of the Tigers’ 22 assists. Her performance continued on defense, as the veteran guard tallied five steals.

UP NEXT: The LSU women’s basketball team gets a few days off before returning to the hardwood Monday, January 26th, when the Tigers welcome the Florida Gators to the PMAC. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., and you can catch every second of the action live on Mustang 107.1
