After a dramatic comeback on Saturday where the LSU Tigers came back from an 8-0 deficit to win on a walk-off homer, the Tigers met up with tp ranked Tennessee in the SEC Championship game as LSU was the lowest seed (11) to make the championship game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LSU got on the board in the bottom of the first inning in Hoover as Jared Jones tattooed a baseball 470 feet to take a 1-0 lead for the Tigers in the SEC Championship Game.
In the third, Tennessee made an emphatic statement on the Tigers with a three-run home run from Billy Amick. It was set up by a single from Christian Moore and a Blake Burke walk before Amick gave the Vols a 3-1 lead.
After a single by Burke and a walk by Amick, Hunter Ensley got an RBI single to score Burke for the second time and extend Tennessee’s lead to 4-1.
There was a moment where LSU had momentum with the bases loaded and two outs, but a baserunning mistake by freshman Steven Milam, the hero of the semifinals on Saturday, was the third out and ended the opportunity for the Tigers.
In the bottom of the ninth, Hayden Travinski hit a hard liner to right field, but the sunlight forced Kavares Tears to misjudge the play and Travinksi turned it into a double. Milam drew a full count before hitting an automatic double to the right field wall, scoring Travinski and cutting the lead to 4-2. Mac Bingham then capitalized off of an error from Amick to score Milam and make it a 4-3 game. However, the Volunteers were able to get Ashton Larson and Alex Milazzo down on strikes to win the SEC Championship.
BIG NUMBER: 5
The victory gives Tennessee their fifth SEC Tournament championship as the Vols were also the regular season champs in 2024.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Billy Amick
Amick may have gone 1-4 at the plate, but his one hit was the biggest: a three-run homer that turned out to be the game-winner for the Vols.
