The LSU Tigers will be looking to bounce back from its season-opening defeat against Florida State, by kicking off its home schedule at Tiger Stadium against the Grambling State Tigers.
It will be the first meeting on the gridiron between the two historic football programs.
Pregame begins at 4:30 and kickoff is set for 6:30 and you can listen to all the action live on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette and 104.1 Lake Charles — Southwest Louisiana’s Sports Station.
SMITH MAKES DEBUT
Maison Smith made a splash as a freshman in 2021 when he played in nine games, recorded 19 tackles, five tackles for a loss, and four sacks. Smith would earn 2021 Freshman All-America from the Football Writers Association of America and was selected to the Freshman All-SEC Team. After injuring his knee in the opener last season, Smith was suspended for this year’s season opener due to an NCAA violation.
PERKINS MOVING OUTSIDE
Harold Perkins is expected to be moved back to outside as a pass rusher this week after playing as the Tigers’ middle linebacker in the opener. The dynamic All-American pass rusher was used to shadow Florida State’s Jordan Travis but managed only five tackles and didn’t get a single pressure on the quarterback. Perkins playing the position where he will make the most impact will be a huge boost to the defense.
IMPROVED PASS PROTECTION
After giving up 16 quarterback pressures and four sacks against Florida State, LSU will be looking to protect quarterback Jayden Daniels better against Grambling. Even though the Tigers from north Louisiana had three sacks in their opening 35-31 loss to Hampton, the purple and gold Tigers should perform better on Saturday.
