EUNICE — LSU Eunice’s River Town capped his opening weekend hot start with a perfect day at the plate.

In LSUE’s 12-0 mercy rule victory over North Lake College on Sunday at Bengal Stadium, Town went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored as the Bengals opened up the season going 3-0.

The sophomore drove in the first run of the game on an RBI single and would score later in the frame off Hunter Tabb’s sacrifice fly. The former Zachary High School added his second home run of the young season an inning later, a two-run blast to right to push LSUE’s lead to 4-0.

For the weekend, Town went 8-for-11 (.727) at the plate, with eight RBIs, eight runs scored and two home runs.

LSUE would close out its final three at-bats with two runs each inning with Jack Merrifield, Ayden Makarus, Town and Scott Jones driving in runs off base hits.  Reed Babin meanwhile lifted the second homer of the game with a solo shot in the sixth to give LSUE an 11-0 advantage.

Town, Jones and Merrifield all produced multi-hit games as that heart of the LSUE lineup accounted for eight RBIs, nine hits and seven runs scored.

The Bengals would unload the bullpen on Sunday with Jerry Couch recording the victory on a pitch count-limiting two innings. The sophomore would not allow a hit or walk while striking out four batters. Chance Stone, Austin Andrishok, Noah Beason, Logan Gray, Miles Clack and Dawson Alexander would all see action on the mound on Sunday.

LSUE will continues its home stand next weekend with a three-game series against Paris Junior College. First pitch for the first game on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
