Three of Louisiana’s top players in both men’s and women’s basketball were honored by the Sun Belt Conference Monday as the All Sun-Belt teams were announced.
Jordan Brown, the preseason Player of the Year, was named to the conference’s first team while Lafayette’s own Greg Williams Jr was named to the second team. On the women’s side, Lanay Wheaton was named to the All-Sun-Belt third team.
Brown finished third in the league in scoring at just under 20 points per game and six in rebounding at 8.3 per game. He also led the league in shooting percentage (.575) as he led the Cajuns to the second seed of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Pensacola.
The native of Roseville, CA was also named the SBC Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and the Lou Henson National Player of the Week for this past week.
Williams finished second on the team in scoring (13.8 ppg) while making 58 threes, a team-high. The senior from LCA started every game for the Cajuns and led the team in points seven times. He had a streak from January 21 to February 4 where he scored 20+ points in every contest (5).
Wheaton finished 2022-2023 as the leading scorer for Garry Brodhead’s group, averaging 12.3 points per game, including 14.2 in SBC play. This is the first all-conference award of her career. The Hope, Ark. product has scored over 300 points for the first time in her career as well.
Both teams begin in the Sun Belt Championships in Pensacola, starting with the women on Wednesday against App State. The men will play Saturday night against either ULM or Georgia Southern.
