The Cajuns roster, barring anything out of the ordinary is locked in for the 2018 season. Much like the LSU Tigers, the 2019 class is going to be huge for Billy Napier and his coaching staff. The amount of talent in the state of Louisiana in the class of 2019 is filled with great players. Here’s three positions of need that they need to focus in on.
1. Quarterback
This is crucial for the Cajuns every year, and even more so because they didn’t get one in the 2018 class. While you can’t put that on the coaching staff since they had to hurry up and wrangle a staff together during the busiest part of the recruiting season. In fact, you have to give credit to the staff since they did their due diligence and made sure to visit these kids. Add the fact that Jordan Davis left the program, the Cajuns will need to get a QB in the 2019 class to continue building the foundation of their offense.
2. Wide Receiver
The wide receiver corps is about to get a lot thinner in the near future. Keenan Barnes and Ryheem Malone will be out the door after this season and add the returning juniors, it’s going to be a pretty empty WR corps if they don’t focus in on it. You need to address that need with all the stud athletes in the boot. I say athletes since it’s likely that some of the top-flight wideouts that the Cajuns could get are most likely playing on both sides of the football.
3. Offensive Line
Go back in time to the first season under Mark Hudspeth. There was a lot of promise and one of the big reasons why the Cajuns lived up to those expectations was because of the fact that the O-Line had good chemistry combined with a good center in Andre Huval that really helped the offense flourish. Last year saw some growing pains in the trenches and they’ll need to get some bodies for the O-Line and really develop a rapport in the trenches. It’s a huge position for any CFB program because of how the game is played.
