Veillon, Monica Power Cajuns Past LSU

Posted by clintdomingue on April 16, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns needed some help late on Tuesday night at the Shrine on Airline and got a lot of help thanks to the longball to come away with a 6-5 win over the LSU Tigers in the Wally Pontiff Classic.

How It Happened:

The Cajuns struck first when Orynn Veillon hit an RBI single up the middle to get Hunter Kasuls home safely. Handsome Monica made it a 2-0 advantage later in the second inning with a sac fly, scoring Daniel Lahare.

After Brennan Breaux scored off of a successful double steal in the third, LSU responded in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run bomb out to right field to tie things up. LSU made it a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs, including one off of an RBI single from Beloso for his fourth RBI of the evening.

Veillon turned the Cajuns’ fortunes around in the top of the eighth when he lifted a two-run shot to left field to even things up at five runs apiece. Two pitches later, Handsome Monica proved to be the deciding factor with a solo shot out to left field.

Big Number: 6

LSU’s pitching staff gave the Cajuns a lot of free passes on Tuesday night, walking six batters and that was one of the reasons why the Cajuns were able to get the win.

Players of the Game: Handsome Monica and Orynn Veillon

Two players accounting for five of the six runs definitely necessitates two players receiving the honor during the Wally Pontiff Classic.
