VIDEO RECAP – Gant Goes Down Hard, Cajuns Fall to LA Tech 83-62

Posted by davidschultz on December 15, 2018 in Blogs

In the words of the late Jerry Reed, when you’re hot, you’re hot and Louisiana Tech (9-3) was pretty hot from the field on Saturday night as they took down the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (7-4) by the score of 83-62.

How It Happened:

Things didn’t look good for the Cajuns early on, especially after JaKeenan Gant went down hard after a big block in the opening moments. He wound up returning in the first half, but he wasn’t the same player that we saw Tuesday night against Prairie View. Louisiana was still able to put it together without him and kept things under control for most of the first half.

However, the Bulldogs finished off the first half on a strong note with a  12-7 run to take a four-point lead into the locker room as the first half wrapped up. The second half for the Bulldogs was very similar to what happened at the end of the first with LA Tech going on a 17-6 run to make it 51-38 with 14:40 left in regulation.

The Cajuns kept trying to chop away at the lead, but the Bulldogs were able to respond every time with a bucket of their own, especially from beyond the arc.

Big Number: 61.5%

The Bulldogs ability to drain three-pointers was impressive on Saturday especially in the second half when they went 61.5% from beyond the arc. That combined with JaKeenan Gant not being on the court for much of Saturday’s matchup was a big reason why they came away with a win.

Player of the Game: Malik Marquetti

Marquetti did exactly what the Cajuns needed him to do with the absence of Gant and put up 22 points, nine boards, and three assists on the evening. That alone puts him as the player of the game for the Ragin Cajuns.

Next Up: at McNeese State on Tuesday; Tipoff at 6:30 pm
